GE smartwater under sink filter shuts down after changing filter

I have a GE smartwater undersink filter. It has worked fine for 2 1/2 years and I have been changing the filters about every 4 months. This time when I changed the filtewr, it worked well for a day or two and there was a total lack of water pressure (it just dribbles out). I unscrewed and reseated the filters and that worked for a couple of days, and now that no longer works either.

GE smartwater under sink filter shuts down after changing filter

Run water through the unit with no cartridge in place. Then check the filter to be sure it does not have an obstruction in it. Finally, replace the filter and your pressure should be fine. Good luck.

Two years ago I changed the size of my Culligan holding tank under the sink to a bigger unit and at the same time put in a culligan water softener that also removes chlorine. I also changed the culligan water tap. I get this white clear sludge that occasionally comes out of the tap and hangs there. It can be removed but if this is bacteria build-up this can not be good. What is the cause? Water for the entire house including the culligan system goes through the water softener minus the chlorine. Should I put in a divertor to have non softener water go to the drinking system? Or is the problem a bad tank or a bad tap? It is interesting that a neighbour has a culligan water softener that does NOT take out chlorine but still has the same guck coming from her drinking water tap on occasion. Suzanne from Ontario

Reverse osmosis water filter

Hi jennym123, I'm Harvey the Master Plumber. Your question is: You have a reverse osmosis water filter. The other day water production went from over a gallon of filtered water to 3/4 of a cup. You changed the filters thinking that may be the problem, but that did not solve anything. What else could be wrong with it? This is a common problem. Can also be very frustrating. A small bit of debrie has been brought up by the flowing water and is stuck somewhere. As you can imagine this will restrict the flow. I would start with the on/off valve next to the cold water line first. Turn the water off first and take it apart checking for obstructions. Then work your way down checking the lines and any place you can. It's helpfull to have a bit of wire to probe with. If you turn it back on and the problem still persists then you missed it. Try again. Good luck. Feel free contact me again! Please give me a rating here at fixya before you sign offThank you,Harvey your Master Plumber

2001 Ford Escape Just had oil changed, air filter, fuel filter, serpentine belt, replaced the car was running fine then I started having starting trouble few days later. The engine kept shutting off right after I started it. So I had the spark plugs and the fuel filter replaced; the same day when I started the car it drove for few blocks then stopped picking up speed and now it won't drive higher than 10mph when I step on the gas it make this very loud screeching noise. Please help

Check the belt you replaced .you most likely have it tentioned to tight .or maby check Pullies for hair. Line cracks or rubbing .

Changed r/o 3 filters and now water produces 2cups

The pressure on an EMPTY tank should be 8-10 psi. Be sure the tank is empty before checking the pressure. A good way to empty the tank is to connect a small air compressor to the air valve on the tank, open the systems faucet, and turn on the compressor. A bicycle pump works too....Just more of a workout:)

To change my bathroom sink faucet I first tried to close the valves below. The cold water one shut just fine, but the hot water valve just won't move. I used a wrench to get leverage on it, but that didn't let it budge either. I know I have to turn it clockwise to the right, just as I did with the other one. I'm female and not sure if I should really put more pressure, if I can, to close it. But I'm afraid it will break, then I'll have to use the main shut off and call a plumber. Any ideas to loosen the tight grip of the valve?

These shut-off valves don't last long before they lock up. There is always the chance that they'll break. Go ahead and turn off the main water valve, then remove the packing nut (Google images for valve packing nut). This should allow you to turn the valve stem. However, you still run the risk of not being able to get to shut off. I almost always have to replace these shut-off valves whenever replacing a faucet anyway. So, assuming the valves are threaded on to the supply pipe (not soldered) then buy replacement valves as a very first step. I am assuming you won't want to do the soldered fitting yourself. Good luck,

Water flow from cistern does not shut off after the toilet in flushed

You need to get inside the cistern and see which type of shut off device you have. It will either be a long armed ball float or a short armed bobbin type. Ensure the float has not come away from the arm and that the adjustment is correct.
