If you live in an older part of Town, You most likely have an older Sewer, 4-6" clay drain tile leaving your house. This Tiles is in 2-4ft clay sections, layed together with concrete and other ("OLD FASHION TECH") You or your neighbor probably have roots in your old clay tiles creating a blockage. The Roots can enter through the cracks between the old joints of the clay tile in search for a great supply of water!!! Your cheapest and best bet is to call a certified roto-rooter company or someone able to use a roto-rooter rental machine. If you need more info, feel free to ask....Joe

I have two (back to back separated by a wall) Kohler toilets. Model K3589-47. One is always loosing the water in the bowl. It leaks out slowly but always does it. When I flush the toilet on the opposite side of the wall and I go to the other toilet, I actually see the water in the bowl moving and then it will slowly drain out. Both toilets are brand new. A kohler rep said to me when I called that when that model is installed back to back like it is in my house that its a problem. Any comments or solutions would be appreciated.

You will need to check the drainage fitting these toilets are draining into. If it is a cross tee fitting without a baffle you are getting throw over across the fitting and it will not stop. The only fix for this is to replace the fitting in your drainage system. In Illinois it is a code violation to put this type of fitting in that application. When these power flush toilets come out it made this problem worse. In short there is no fix for this problem other than redoing the drainage system.

Toilet wont flush completely. it may take 4 times or more to flush solids. i at first thought this was related to heavy rains we had been receiving in the area over a period of about 4 months. 2 days after the heavy rains, the toilet would flush fine. now, it does not flush properly ever, again, 4 times or more to flush everything. i installed fluidmaster whole toilet repair kit recently, toilet still wont flush properly. while showering, the toilet will gurgle constantly as long as water is draining from the tub. shortly after all water has drained from tub, toilet stops gurgling, then, 30-60 seconds later gurgling sounds come from the tub drain, and continue 6-7 times about 60 seconds apart. i have checked the air vent from the roof, it is clear. i have pulled the toilet, the drain below the toilet is clear. this tub and toilet are the only two fixtures draining to the mainline pipe leaving the house leading to the back yard. house is approx. 40+ years old, i suspect it drains into septic tank but not sure about septic tank. it is not a municipal sewer system. what could be causing the toilet not to flush, and all the gurgling of the toilet and tub?

There is no air release. the vent must be clogged somewhere. you can take a hose up there and see if it drains all the way or floods over. since the tub drain has a trap and the toilet itself is a trap, there has to bee a good amount of air pressure coming up without a release. i would say an obstruction. possibly at the junction of the main and the vent.

A bolt won't tighten all the way just keeps spinning, but it also won't unscrew out of the wall. What should I do to get this bolt out without stripping the thing?

Yes just pull it out - it will pull out the anchor on the screw, then replace it with a new larger anchor and screw. or fill the hole and re drill a new hole the right size.

Master bathroom toilet burps when flushed. Therefore each flush is sluggish and will clog very easily. ( note; this house built in 1991 we are the third owner as of May 08 ). Two other toilets in house work perfectly however they are not near this one, confirmation when looking up at the roof from the backyard. I Had a plumber auger it under the home warranty it did nothing to solve the problem (not clogged). He had no other solution other than to have me making another 75.00 request to come back at a later date. I was wondering if venting would cause this and how to fix if this is in fact the problem? Thanks, A J It is a Briggs elongated toilet

If that toilet is over 12 feet from a vent stack you have a vent problem. If it has it own vent, try running a cable through that vent in case something fell into it,and is clogging it up, causing A lack of air above the water.

Saniflo Saniplus pumps intermittently, and I hear a a trickling somewhere back there in the pipes or the unit, but do not know how to find the leak if that is what it is. What pipe could be leakiing back in to the pump? This all started after shutting off the water flow to the house while away on a long weekend...might something have dried out that shoudn't have?

If the discharge pipe runs vertically then the non-return valve is letting water drip back in to the tank and then it will self activate

The American Standard toilet in my apartment - Home

When you turn on the supply the tank fills ok. I don't know the mechanism in your tank but fixed a similar problem. Check the flap that releases water to flush, if it CLOSES properly after flush otherwise it lets the water into the toilet continuously making the sound. IF closed properly, the tank fills.

I have 5 kohler pressure assist toilets with flushmate 503 series tanks in my home. Several of my bowls have minimal to no bowl rinse. My water pressure is more than adequate. I recently changed a flushmate tank on one of my toilets that does rinse well and noticed a hole knocked out of the porceline just to the right and to the back of the hole that the flushmate delivers its supply of water to the bowl. On installation or construction is there a hole that needs to be knocked out to allow water delivery to the rim for an adequate bowl rinse. The water delivery and pressure to the bottom of the bowl is great. I believe it would flush a brick if placed in the bottom but the bowl rinse is terrible. We have to keep a pitcher in each bathroom so water can be drawn from the faucet to rinse the sides and front of the bowl. thanks...Ken

There are two holes in the top of the bowl where the tank attaches. As you indicate, one hole delivers water to the jet at the inlet to trap passageway, and another smaller hole to direct water to the rim. I have seen in some cases the gasket that seals the tank to the bowl block the smaller rim-fed hole. All you need to do is knotch the gasket where the hole is located and re-install the gasket so the knotch is located over the hole. If you have any other questions please call the 800 phone number on top of the Flushmate.
