Short beep every hour on smoke detector

Try some new batteries. Make sure to use alkaline batteries. The units should only chirp when the battery gets low. If that doesn't fix the problem, contact First Alert.

My first alert smoke detector went off at midnight last night. It is doing the three beeps, pausing and then another three beeps. This happened for about 3 minutes, stopped and then started again repeating this for about 6 minutes. It started up again after about 5 minutes. It repeated this process for close to 15 or 20 minutes. I had to turn off the breaker and remove the batteries to get it to stop. I checked the house and no smoke/fire was present. I did not see a model number on the detector. This was installed during a remodel job, and I did not receive any literature on the alarms. I have three of them in the house. It seemed at first only the master bedroom alarm sounded, but by the end all of the alarms were going off. Any ideas?

Change brand new battery, every three months.Take some rubbing achahol clean the test button metal contact inside the detector.Well works correctly after these steps.

I have just replaced 2 out of 3 hardwired smoke alarms with First Alert AC plus battery backup detectors. The old one is about 30 years old along with the two new ones. What happens is when I plug them all in to ac current they all go off. So I unplugged the old one and it stopped. Do I need to replace the old one with the new one too to make them all compatible. Or is there something wrong with the wiring

If they are all thirty years old, Id replace them all. You can try first by giving the old one a good cleaning. Get a can of air and thoroughly spray in and around the smoke. You can also remove the cover and use q tip in alcohol to clean it well. If that does not correct the problem, replace the last one.
