Had a leaky Moen Posi-Temp shower faucet. Installed an Ace Hardware replacement cartridge. Fixed the leak, but now have a water hammer noise in the vicinity of the shower. Is this a common problem with non-Moen replacement cartridges for Moen Posi-Temp systems? How do you recommend I get rid of the water hammer noise?

Yesterday, I also repaired a leaking bath/shower cartridge in a Moen Posi-temp faucet (mod. 1222). I couldn't locate a Moen cartridge so I bought one in Home Depot made by Danco (#88675A). My priority was to correct the water leak. Today I noted that when the commode fill valve shuts off, a noise (clicking) comes from the tub that I suspected as water hammering. I tried flushing the water lines to correct for air hammer several times without success. So that brings me to this site and I see that someone else has experienced the same problem. To correct the noise, I'll need to get a Moen cartridge. Until then, my question is: IS THERE ANY HARM DONE by leaving the Danco cartridge in place? I can get accustomed to the metalic/hammering noise whenever the toilet is flushed and the tub faucet is shut off.

I installed a Moen 82496C faucet. I have great hot water flow, barely any cold water flow. I have talked to rep from Moen about this problem. They have now sent me 2 new replacement cartridges. No luck. Without the cartridge in I have great hot/cold water flow from the valve. When I put the cartridge in, the same me please..Marc

It sounds like the valve is a manufacture defect where the cartridge sits.Hope this helps.

I just installed a Moen Traditional 82008BRB faucet and shower. After having it installed for a day, water will drip (20 or so drops) out of the shower head every 5-10 minutes. This also occurred when I had the shower head removed and just the open pipe, so it doesn't look like the shower head is the problem. Any suggestions?

HELLO- Very possible that there can be dirt or solder inside, hard to determine without looking inside at the sealing points of the vavle itself. Try to determine if it is the hot or the cold side, also look at were the valve seals off ,could be small imperfection in the seal ! Good luck

I jhave in my showers the Moen and One handle tub and shower faucet, model # T3132. When I turn it on in the showers, there is no hot water... in both it gives me only cold water... even if I turn the handle to the right, towards heat... still runs cold water. Everywhere else in my house, and in the same bathroom I get hot water, in sinks and such... just not in the showers... I need help... What could be the problem? And what is the solution?

As you look at your valve on the right you will see a large screw fitting.inside this fitting is a temp/ pressure balance spool. it has failed for some reason and needs to be replaced. On both sides of the valve are 2 smaller screws. these are the water shut off valves. turn off the water and remove the larger screw fitting. remove spool and replace. Hope this helps.

I recently had a new Moen Posi Temp shower valve installed. I'm having an intermittent problem now. At various faucet handle positions, the valve will start sputtering and vibrating. The only way to stop it is to move the handle to another position to change the temperature and then move it back to the original position. - I opened up the shower wall from behind and strapped all the pipes down securely and the problem still exists. With the valve exposed I heard a harsh ticking sound in the valve as the water was sputtering. Can someone please help me? It would be much appreciated.

This problem is in the head of the valve itself. These faucets are complex systems and I have seen many improperly installed. When you pull the cover off (it has an O-ring to create enough friction to keep it in place) you will see a ring with teeth and possibly molded to fit inside the cavity in one of two or four positions. Additionally there are two tiny cups that go behind the head of the shower valve to prevent sputtering . The water must be turned off and lines opened before this is even opened. It sounds to me like one of those little plastic cups is misaligned, possibly leaving just enough space for water under pressure to escape past the wall of the cup, which creates the "sputtering". Only professionals should attempt to install these, and I have even come behind pros that did not understand how they had to be installed. My recommendation is to call back the installer, have him pull it all out, replace that damaged cup and put it back together. You should watch him do it, so that you see what was wrong in the installation. Properly installed there is no way this kind of thing happens. Dan

This is the third time I have had to replace my Moen T170 acrylic tub and shower handle. It keeps cracking, making it impossible to turn the water on or off. Is this a typical problem with this type of faucet handle?

Acrylic stuff checks and then cracks... junk! You might try putting some non-hardening filler where it goes over the shaft to distribute the load. Also don't overtighten retaining screw and maybe use a flat washer (brass) if they have one of those lockwashers that digs into the plastic. Any edges and holes are where the cracks start.
