I have an old home with a one hand Temptrol shower diverter which no longer regulates H2O temp properly. I purchased a Delta Carlisle 174939-SS-I and need to know how best to install this unit. I am a 60 yr old female and have done some plumbing in the past. I am not afraid to tackle this but like to know as much info in advance as possible.

Start by turning the water off to the whole house. Open the tiled wall or if there is access behind the old valve open that wall instead. With a tubing cutter cut the hot and cold water lines as well as the shower riser. Remove any clips that are securing the valve to the wooden studs. Mount the new valve in the same area as the old. Make sure that the valve is not upside down arrows on the brass body will indicate flow direction for the tub spout. Connect the water supply lines to the new valve by means of soldering or mechanical joint. Connect the existing shower riser by means of soldering or mecnaical joint. Turn the water on and test for leaks.

I have an old cast iron, enamel coated tub. It has a tub stopper that you turn a lever to make the stopper go up and down. Problem is that in order for my shower to drain and not become a bath I had to pull the stopper out of the drain. Now I cannot get it back in and working properly again. I have found diagrams that show how the mechanism is supposed to work but haven't yet solved the probelm. I am a brand new home owner and need the tub feature for my daughter. Please help.

I would consider replacing the trip waste with a newer still. That still has a lot more linkage then the newer one and that's way no one uses then anymore I not sure you can buy them now. The main reason why I say replace it now is the linkage tends to collect a lot more debis such as long hire it will stop up continually.

When i hooked up a delta faucet for a handicap tub i had to put it on the right side of the wall so that the older guy could reach the handle to turn the water on and he wanted the shower head closer

Not usually, but there should be an inverter or other unit to activate the shower. Often it is in the tub outlet and blocks the tub outlet to force water up the shower pipes. If there is no such or if it is just not working you may need to run the piping up to a sufficient height and then back down to the shower head to create enough pressure resistance if it is as you say, requiring a specific height of pipe to get a specific back pressure. But there also needs to be a mechanism to force the water up the shower pipe. Look up Delta on the web and get a phone number as there will be someone at Delta that can fully advise you about this.
