How to identify make and model of old whirlpool tub?

We bought a house with a broken whirlpool tub. When we turn it on, we can hear the motor hum but no air comes out of the jets. The previous owners inherited the tub in the same condition and made no attempt to get it repaired. The problem I have is, how can I identify who made this tub and what model it is? I think it dates from the 1990s, when the bathroom was supposedly remodeled. But the only clue I have as to its identity is that the drain switch says "Kohler." Looking at Kohler's Web site, though, I can't find a model that looks like this one (this is not a high-end product and I'

How to identify make and model of old whirlpool tub?

This is a problem common to all whirlpool/air jet style tubs. The pumps become air locked due to the water evaporating from lack of use. All tubs need, and have, SOME means of priming the pump, this is most likely what the problem was, originally, for you. This time in particular you found it to be electrical in nature but for future reference, for you and all who have these style of tubs, I am putting this out there. Some where on the tub, usually along the top edge of the tub is a vent knob that controls the amount of air that the pump is allowed to mix with the water for the jets, usually by closing this valve all the way (tub needs to be full of water of course) and running the pump for a minute or 2, you should be able to get the pump pumping water again, if not you may need to do something else with your particular set-up to get it purged of air, the pumps in jacuzzi tubs are designed to pump water, not air, so if the motor is running but you get no jet action, your most likely air locked and need to prime pump/purge air.

The American Standard whirlpool tub is at least 15-20 years old. It worked fine but now will not turn on. It has a touch pad switch and a stud like waterlevel sensor that is exposed inside the tub. Normally the water level has to be above the "stud" sensor before the jets start working. The breaker is on but the tub still will not turn on. It has a "Ultrasense Plus" model 163 system on it. None of the lights (red or green) light up. Some of the model numbers I could find were on the pump. AS Airpump model 9620.137 or 9620.145 also model 01-2720 was on the pump

Since none of the lights are on that means that the problem is at the control board - most likely the main switch or the relay are faulty. You will have to access then for testing. Replacing either of them will be easy, finding replacement parts for such an old unit on the other hand no so much. Go here http://www.americanstandard-us.com/customerservice/and find out if they still provide parts for your unit. If not, contact a repairman, it might know from where to locate a replacement.

How to Change White Water Whirlpool Tub Jet Hardware

I recommend that you consider spray painting the gold hardware with brushed nickel rusteoleum paint. IF you decide to go this route you must lightly abrade the gold surface with emery cloth then prime with rusteoleum primer, let that dry and the final coat will be the brushed nickel. I have done this and it turned out excellent. I get compliments on it. Regarding your other issues, you will be happiest with white water parts. That being said, it is likely that locally procured parts might fit. I would get one set of parts and try them. You will likely find the model number etc. on a plate in the mechanical compartment of the spa.

I BOUGHT A FORCLOSED HOME AND IT HAS A CORNER STYLE WHIRLPOOL BATH- SINCE I DONT KNOW A THING ABT THESE CREATURES I HAVE 2 QUESTIONS. I HAVE A DRIP STYLE LEAK FROM AN ITEM THAT ON THE INSIDE OF THE TUB IS LIKE A CAP ABT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER, 1/8' THICK. THIS CAP TURNS -I NOTICED IF I TURN IT ALL THE WAY COUNTER CLOCKWISE THE DRIP STOPS. WHAT IS IT AND WHAT DOES IT DO? THE UNDERSIDE HAS A BLUE CLEAR LINE GOING TO A JET. # 2 THE INLINE HEATER DOESNT SEEM TO KEEP THE WATER AS WARM AS IT SHOULD- IS THERE ANYWAY TO ADJUST THE TEMP? THANKS..HOME DEPOT ISNT VERY HELPFUL p.s. where do I find the model number of this tub?

Inline heaters for whirlpool bathtubs will not and cannot maintain any comfortable water temperature. Their sole function is to slow the time it takes for the water to cool off. The myth of their capabilities has long been a misleading sales propaganda joke in the industry. Not all manufacturers put their model numbers on their tubs. Those that do will almost always post it on a label in the area of the tub where the back usually rests in the region of the motor but not on the motor itself. I believe your quarter size cap is an air control for you jet. It controls the amount of air coming out the jet when the tub is full of water and the motor is on. You should see the difference in swirling water turning it from right to left or the other way around. If yours has a leak then I certainly hope you find the Model number. Good luck.
